My Barefoot Books Story so far…
I first discovered Barefoot Books in the library while working as an early years librarian. A number of Barefoot books were firm favourites for toddler time. Animal Boogie is a perfect storytime book for toddlers featuring fun animals, bright illustrations and catchy lyrics. Other familar books included the curiously titled ‘My Daddy is a Pretzel’ ( a great introduction to yoga) and classic fairytale ‘The Giant Turnip’ . After leaving the library I set up my own business and the most natural progression was to become a Barefoot Ambassador along side my storytelling business.
As a librarian one of the most important aspects is the high quality of the titles in every respect. Every book is commissioned and selected by Nancy and Tessa and many years are spent on the production. The art work is always exquisite (see Leonardo for an example) and they only pick the most talented storytellers. Along side this the books are inclusive and diverse with 90 different cultures represented in the Barefoot catalogue (there are 36 alone in If You’re happy and You know it’!) The books also include a diverse range of religions and cultures as well as types of families including adoption in the breath taking ‘ Motherbridge of Love’. Barefoot books teach children about being global aware citizens, travelling, discovering different cultures, looking after and respecting the earth.
